An Educational trip to the Heart of Europe

about my venture

In the summer of 2012, I will be traveling throughout the heart of Europe. Over the past several months, I have become involved with a program called People to People.  It is a program that was founded by President Eisenhower in 1956.  His vision was to break down cultural barriers by giving everyday citizens of different countries opportunities to meet and get to know each other.  People to People Ambassador programs allow students to experience short-term travel opportunities while developing understanding of different cultures, building friendships, and lasting peace.   The program I am participating in is called the Heart of Europe.  This trip will last for 20 days.  I will be traveling to France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy.  In France, I will be climbing the Eiffel Tower and seeing artwork in person, such as the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo at the Louvre Museum.  In Switzerland, I will be enjoying the breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps while giving back to the community.  In Austria, I will visit one of the most deadliest concentration camps during World War II and will have the opportunity to met and learn from remaining survivors.  In Italy, I will be greeted by a representative of the European government, explore the Leaning Tower of Pisa, view Michelangelo's David, toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, work on a farm and much more.  During my time in these places, I look forward to enhancing my knowledge of World War II, Medieval History, Renaissance art and architecture, and intercultural studies.  My time spent here will earn me a semester of World history credit.    I am excited for this opportunity to view and learn about the world.  I enjoy being able to gain understanding of other peoples culture and way of life.

Haley Nightingale

Student Ambassador / People to People

My name is Haley, I am 13 years old and a freshman in High School. In my free time, I love to dance. My focus is tap, jazz, and lyrical. I compete in dance competitions throughout the Northeast, with a group of about 45 girls. Last year we won a national title. Another thing I enjoy in my free time is learning how to play the guitar. I have been taking lessons for almost a year and am beginning to learn Blackbird. I am also a girl scout, and have been since first grade. With girl scouts, I have been able to participate in many activities that are both fun and educational. Currently, I am in my second year of volunteering for a program called FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America). With this program, I have raised money for several organizations, such as Relay for Life. I plan on continuing my work for this organization. The last thing about myself is I love children. In my free time, I am often babysitting.
