Ciao, Bonjour, Yiassou – Europe is calling!

Funding for: Paying my way to Europe as a Student Ambassador

about my venture

My journey started when my parents received an invitation from People to People in December 2011 to an orientation meeting for their Student Ambassador Program.  After attending the meeting, I told my parents "Wow, that is something that I would like to do do!".  After obtaining two recommendations from my teachers, one from my assistant principal, and interviewing with the delegation leaders, I was accepted into this fantastic program and will be traveling to Europe this summer.

Now let me explain a little bit about People to People and the Student Ambassador Program.  People to People was created by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956.  President Eisenhower believed that interaction between ordinary citizens around the world would create cultural understanding and world peace.

My European trip will take me to France, Italy, Greece.  We will receive an Ambassadorial welcome from a European official, meet with a monk (or nun) in Italy to learn what life is like in a monastery, and have an opportunity to make friends with European students during a stay in a guesthouse.  We will visit places like the Louvre Museum, the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, the relics of the Olympic Games, the Canal of Corinth, experience Acropolis and stand in the famous Parthenon.  We will also see Michelangelo's David, rappel down a castle wall and honor the the heroes of World War I at the American Cemetery and Memorial.

This fantastic opportunity costs $7,000.  This is where your help comes in.  Your donations, no matter how big or how small will help me to pay my way and allow me to experience the history and culture of these great countries, make new friends both near and far, and experience ambassadorship firsthand.  It may even earn some extra credit from my teacher next year when I move on to Graylake Middle School.  I will also be pursuing other fund raising opportunities.
