The Foundation of the Holy Cross (Fundación de la Santa Cruz) is a non-profit organization founded in 1988. It's main purpose is to offer a solution to the problem of mistreated and abused children - one of the largest and most painful problems in Colombia. The Foundation receives hundreds of applications every year for children in desperate need of help.

For this matter, the Foundation has developed a project called "New World Homes" which aims at creating substitute homes for these children, in the small village of San Francisco near Bogotá. Each home is headed by "foster mother" aided by a "foster aunt", who work together in the comprehensive development of 15 children previously selected. Our goal is to offer these children an adequate attention in all areas of education and development, following the guidelines established by the Foundation. They receive, first of all, love, an adequate diet, clothing, protection and education for an overall well-being; we expect them to become useful citizens and builders of God's Kingdom in this world. They live there up to the time they graduate from high school and are able to support themselves.

At the present time there are three of these homes already functioning which shelter 45 children under the care of three foster mothers and aunts, an instructor, a general manager, a psychologist, a social worker and three farm workers. The children go to public school and gather working experience on the 14 acres farm. There are various kind of crops, the main ones being coffee and oranges, a plant nursery, an orchard, and chicken, hog, fish and worm raising. The Foundation's project aims at 4 homes which should shelter no less than sixty children, a Joint House, improvement and increase of farm activities and shops of different
nature to give the children a start in various types of jobs.
