about my venture

 Hi, my name is Samantha and I have had the honor of being nominated and selected as a Student Ambassador with People to People.  I will be traveling as a delegate to Western Canada in the summer of 2012.

As an Ambassador with People to People, I will have unique access to experiences and adventures not available through a family vacation.  For example, I will experience an inside look at Canadian government through a behind the scenes view of Victoria’s Parliament. I will learn drumming and dancing with the Piikani Nation, sing sacred Blackfoot songs inside a sweat lodge, spend the night in a teepee, and participate in daily life in a Hutterite colony.  I will get to do all of these things and more while sharing my culture with those I meet along the way. 

I know I will grow in ways unimaginable to me at this point in time.  I look forward to sharing my newly gained knowledge and understanding in ways that will make our world better.  I hope through my growth to become a stronger agent of change.

Student Ambassador / People to People

Hi, I am 12 years old and am in the sixth grade. I was born in Texas and nine years ago moved to a small town in Middle Tennessee where I live with my parents and little brother (he was born in Tennessee). It is a close knit community, and I have some great friends here. The rest of my family is spread out throughout the United States in Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Maryland, and Arizona. I have only traveled to three of those states, though I was too young to really remember Illinois. I enjoy school and learning about new things. I love running, hiking, camping, bird watching, and being in the outdoors. My favorite subject in school is reading. I love the adventures I can experience through books, but now I am looking forward to experiencing an adventure of my own. I also love writing and hope to one day become a published author. Recently I made a wonderful new friend during my People to People interview process; I cannot wait to get together with her again soon. I am looking forward to getting to know all the members of the delegation as we prepare for our adventure.
