Transporting the McCallum Knights of Steel to a new level

The McCallum Knights of Steel are a high school steel drum band from Austin, Texas - part of a 15 year tradition of teaching steel drum music to high school students.  This December, the advanced band was invited to perform for the second time ever at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, a national band clinicians convention held annually.  McCallum Knights of Steel are part of a vibrant local community supporting steel pan music and education, and have performed with internationally renowned steel pan artists including Andy Narrell, Liam Teague, Darren Dyke, Ray Holman,and  Leon "Foster" Thomas.  This band recently performed with Andy Narrell, the Univ. Of Texas big band jazz band, the University of North Texas Steel Drum band, Mark Walker, Luis Conte, and The Relator at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Austin.  Andy Narrell commented that they play music well beyond most college programs!  
We are seeking support to transport the steel drums to & from Chicago that the students can perform on instruments tuned for them.  Please help these motivated students get to Chicago for this incredible opportunity!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llx5ZcNjFu0&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Shelly Van Dyke

Shelly Van Dyke is a parent volunteer in Austin, Texas who is passionate about children, public education, the value of fine arts in creating a whole-brain educational experience, and broadening access to growth opportunities for all students. Shelly is the mother of 3 young adults, and when not working, spends time volunteering with several non-profit organizations, including the McCallum High School Knights of Steel, Fine Arts Academy, and Band music programs.
